Skylight Installations & Maintenance in Brisbane and the Gold Coast
RTL Trades (formally known as RTL Plumbing) have been solving Brisbane and the Gold Coast’s Plumbing issues for over 70 years. Trusted by residential, Real Estate, Body Corporate and commercial clients, our team of technicians are fast, friendly and dependable.
Why do skylights need maintenance and cleaning?
Due to the nature and location of skylights, they can easily be damaged by extreme weather such as hail. The most common reason why our Roof Plumbers see skylights leaking is a lack of maintenance with a build-up of debris such as leaves and bird droppings. Secondly, poor installation leading to water pooling on or on the areas surrounding the skylight.
RTL’s team of roof plumbers carry out repairs and replacements on skylights in the greater Brisbane and Gold Coast areas. Whilst carrying out a roof inspection report, our tradesmen will review the condition of any currently installed skylights and are able to fix any leaks or issues that may be occurring. Our team are experienced in assessing the condition of skylights and are able to accurately provide a solution and determine if a replacement or repair is required.
Common types of skylights RTL’s Roof Plumbers will replace and repair.
Concrete tile skylights
Unobtrusive and easy to install, these durable skylights made of acrylic or polycarbonate are a popular option for buildings with concrete tile roofs. Over time, these skylights can fade or turn slightly yellow. Which is not just unsightly but also reduces the amount of light coming through to your home or office.
Skylights for corrugated and metal roofs
Larger than the ones used on concrete tile roofs, these unobtrusive skylights are made of durable acrylic or polycarbonate. Although relatively flat in design, because of the nature of the material these skylights from time to time need replacing due to hail and UV damage and yellowing. The screws surrounding these skylights are also prone to rusting, which need to be replaced to prevent leaks.
Trim deck and domed skylights
These popular and common skylights act as a diffuser of the light and can be made out of acrylic, polycarbonate or glass. The trim is usually made of zincalume, however other trims and flashings made of rubber and metal can deteriorate over time due to water and damaging UV rays, which then lead to leaks.
Why Choose RTL
With all types of skylights, our team will carry out a thorough inspection of the condition of the skylight itself, the fitting and flashings fitting the skylight to the roof. Skylights require inspections every 6 to 12 months which RTL Trades will do alongside a regular roof inspection.
